WZŁ Nr 1 S.A. to provide the Ground Segment for MikroSAR, an Earth observation system based on SAR satellites
Warsaw, 14 May 2025 – Today, ECEYE and Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności Nr 1, acting together as a consortium, signed an agreement with the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Poland to deliver the Polish Armed Forces with MikroSAR, an observation system of the Earth’s surface based on SAR satellites. ECEYE is the consortium leader responsible for the Space Segment (three ICEYE’s SAR satellites) while WZŁ Nr 1 S.A. as a party to the consortium, is to deliver the Ground Segment, including a Satellite Antenna on Trailer. The agreement includes an option to purchase 3 more ECEYE’s SAR satellites together with their Mobile Ground Segment.
The agreement will provide the Polish Armed Forces with cutting-edge ISR capabilities based on SAR satellites. ICEYE's SAR satellites enable continuous monitoring of points of interest on the Earth's surface, day and night, regardless of the weather, exceeding by far capabilities of satellite optoelectronic tools. The purchase of SAR satellites will significantly increase versatility and effectiveness of ISR activities of the Polish Armed Forces, enabling a more complete picture of the operational situation to be obtained.
This is a great day for the Polish Armed Forces and Poland, as we are gaining full independence in the radar reconnaissance and imaging. We are proud that a Pole founded a company such as ICEYE. We are also confident that we are acquiring the very best capabilities in the world. Freedom and independence can only be defended through independence and innovation, while applications of the technology acquired today are not only of military significance, but also of economic importance, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
I am glad that ICEYE will strengthen defense capabilities in Poland with cutting-edge SAR satellites. Our advanced, operationally proven satellite system provides actionable intelligence for resilience, readiness, and response, and enables informed and rapid decision-making in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. As a European provider, ICEYE is ideally positioned and ready to provide sovereign reconnaissance systems for ISR activities. The ICEYE system is engineered to also enable sharing capacity and cross-tasking with other nations, if so desired, to optimize the use of the combined fleets for enhancing collective space defense capabilities of European and allied nations, said Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE.
Cooperation with PGZ
Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności Nr 1 S.A., a member of PGZ Holding, take part in the agreement execution as a member of the consortium with ICEYE. Thanks to cooperation between the partners, we will be able to deliver an advanced Mobile Satellite ISR Platform to the Polish Armed Forces. Its capabilities were presented during MSPO 2024. The platform developed by WZŁ Nr 1 S.A. integrates communication and data transmission systems, security systems, power supply and a dedicated antenna system, ensuring fast and efficient distribution of information to appropriate recipients at each level of command. All components will be integrated with a specially equipped mobile shelter.
Satellite reconnaissance is something without which it is difficult to imagine the modern battlefield. Equally important as the system of satellites orbiting in space is the ability to acquire the data they collect, transmit and process it in real time to make it as useful as possible to the fighting sub-units. The solution that WZŁ Nr 1 offers to the army meets all these expectations," says Arkadiusz Bąk, Member of the Management Board of PGZ S.A.
MicroSAR is a huge undertaking, but above all it is proof that we are ready to implement comprehensive projects of strategic importance to the State. Our participation is not a coincidence for it results from the excellence we have built together over 70 years of operations. I am proud of WZŁ Nr 1 S.A. team and would like to thank all employees for their professionalism and commitment. The developed solution has made the platform fully compatible with communications systems currently in use by the Polish Armed Forces. The concept of Mobile Platform includes technical solutions that meet all requirements of the modern battlefield," added Slawomir Obszynski, CEO of WZŁ Nr 1 S.A.
